L’agricoltore Dereje Hailegebriel, 50 anni, vive con sua moglie Tibebe Alemu, 43 anni, sua sorella e i loro figli a Etege, un villaggio nella zona rurale dell’Etiopia centrale, vicino a Debre Birhan. Dei suoi quattro figli, due frequentano la scuola, uno lavora in città e uno si occupa del bestiame in campagna. La famiglia non dispone di servizi igienici né di elettricità dalla rete, ma si affida a un pannello solare personale e a una piccola batteria per ricaricare i telefoni e accendere una sola lampadina. La scuola più vicina dista 60 minuti a piedi. L’ospedale più vicino dista 4 ore a piedi. Il reddito della famiglia proviene dall’agricoltura.
